Formula SAE/Student
Formula Student (FS) is the European part of the originaly American competition Formula SAE. It's a very prestigious challenge of university teams of future engineers. First mentions of it we can find in the year 1981 when this university challenge was found. It came into Europe 17 years later. But now the competitions don't take place only on these two continents. They take place at Brazil, Japan, Australia and others. There are more than 300 university teams so it's clear how important the participation at this challenge is for the university rating.
The goal of these competitions keeps same. Beside getting many experiences and meeting new people and building international connections the main goal is to show everyone you are able to build your own race car. This monopost should be well controlled, powerful, reliable and safety and it has to be well designed, ecological and as cheap as possible. Therefore you have to use most common parts. To finish this hard task - building the racing special - each team should get the money from the sponsors. The rules say the potential customer is a week-end non-professional driver of an autocross or a sprint. It is supposed to develope and build 1000 of these monoposts. The winner of each competition is the team with the most points. But even with the best car you don't need to win - the driver is very important too.
